We as photographers cover wedding venues across the north east and the whole of the UK , some of these venues ( the better ones ) we include in our wedding venues section www.andrew-davies.com/wedding-event.htm
Some things you should be looking for in a wedding venue :
Are you the only wedding on that day , if not be aware of pushed timings and people wanting to rush through things as another ceremony is about to take place , also formal group and outside photos are more tricky if theres more than one wedding party....
Does the venue have ample space and places for shots inside if it pours down , and remember sometimes an ample space you see could be filled with tables at a later date , where does the venue normally have its photography in the rain ?
Is the wedding co-ordinator helpful and willing to accomodate or are you being ordered how your day will run , if you are then put them straight or walk away.Advice is fine , jumped up wedding co-ordinators can spoil days easily, every wedding is unique and should be treated as such.
What is access and parking like for your guests is it ample ? , it is also worth noting that with major venues with big nice fronts where you would want your photos , do they stop cars parking there during the wedding ? if they dont it could be impossible to get the lovely photographs you wanted outside the venue without cars in it .. a few traffic cones in the right place normally does the trick.
When you see the wedding venue is it at the same time of year ? be aware venues change in looks massively during the seasons , and a flowery beautiful venue may need a different approach photographically in the winter.
What are the venues insurance and refund options , I have come across at least 5 wedding venues going bust in the last year and how you get your money back in such cases is important.
Do a search on the wedding venue on Google Images , for instance type in Wedding Photos Gisborough Hall and then click the images tab on the left , look at the sorts of photos people have taken at the venue.
Most of all you need to like the place ! your going to spend all day in it so it has to be right and should reflect you and your partner as people remember the venues as much as anything.
